1936 FORD CABRIOLET CLUBSpectacular Restomod Rings All the Bells
This spectacular 36 all steel Ford Cabriolet restomod was created by a highly respected custom and street rod builder at a cost of $160,000, and the money spent on function, fit and finish is evident everywhere you look. Painted in BMW Chiaretto red, the deep finish is like glass and sets this 36 Cab off perfectly. The profile is enhanced with a beautifully executed two-inch chop, as seamless as from the factory, which compliments the car’s lowered stance. Powered by a hot Corvette fuel-injected LT1 coupled to the mighty 4L60E four-speed automatic, the car rides on a custom Jaguar front and rear independent suspension that provides a level of refinement and sporting handling not often found in these cars.
Built from a barn find about ten years ago, the car has changed hands twice since completed, still with a very low 2900 miles on the restoration. Commissioned by a local auto dealer with grand automotive aspirations, this exclusively fabricated 36 later turned up at a collector car outlet where the current owner traded his BelAir convertible for it in 2019. The extent and quality of the work performed is extraordinary:
Fully boxed and powder coated frame, new floors. Custom stainless-steel exhaust system with porcelain-coated headers and Magnaflow Hushpower mufflers for a bold but mellow sound. Jaguar power disc brakes front and rear, Jag power steering rack, bullet-proof Jag differential, Coys 17” five-spoke wheels with mirror-like chrome shod with staggered Goodyear G-Force tires – all work flawlessly to stop, steer and keep this gorgeous Ford glued to the road.
The engine bay and its components have been engineered for a refreshingly clean and uncluttered appearance, with valve covers to match the finish. Fitted behind the grill, aheavy-duty Champion aluminum radiator with cooling fan and custom header tank.(Please note that the gap on the left hood panel is because it was not entirely closed). Great attention and artistry has been devoted to embellish the car’s design. 1937 Lincoln Zephyr tail lights, custom billet aluminum front grill, 37 Ford headlights with integral parking lights in the lamps that effect a cool orange slash. Color-matched canvas lined running boards. Twin exterior mirrors. Custom tonneau cover for the custom convertible top.
Inside, many finer details. Wool carpeting, deep and spacious leather seating with matching door panels, quarter panels and upholstered trunk. Tasteful custom gauges, Remote operated trunk lid and fuel filler lid. Air conditioning. Power windows. Power seats. Seatbelts for four. Under the rear seat is where you’ll find the battery and a sound system controlled by phone.
The owner points out the issues: An abrasion of the pinstriping at the front hood (see photo) and a pinhole in the left exhaust pipe. That’s it. He claims the car is one of the few he’s owned that is entirely free of fluid leaks of any kind.
Recent maintenance was performed and the car is delivery ready- water pump, thermostat and housing, serpentine belt, oil change, wheels balanced, front end alignment, recently serviced AC with new compressor, new front tires. The custom license plates will be retained.
