Description

I am currently a 996 owner but came across a co-worker who was in need of funds for medical treatment.  I found out he had this 356 that has been sitting untouched for decades and I immediately jumped at it.  I've had it about a week and I'm starting to question my resolve and pocketbook in regards to its restoration.  I have the title in hand. Please ask any questions or request for additional pics, I was limited to the free 12 pics for the listing but I can take several more.BACKGROUND:It is NOT running as it has sat since the eighties.  The timeline I've gotten from the owner is as follows.  It was owned by my co-workers father-in-law who was the second owner.  The car was parked to be fixed up and it sat untouched in a dry sealed storage/garage.  As you can see the interior looks pretty good with everything pretty much intact.  My co-worker was the custodian of his father-in-laws estate and took ownership of the vehicle when his father passed.  The vehicle has been a Dallas and Lubbock vehicle for all its life as he tells it.CONDITION:From what you might see in the pics, the exterior paint is all but gone.  It looks like there was one patch of bodywork where there might have been a bit of rusting through; this is on the front driver fender.  The paint is pretty much peeling off which you might notice in the pics.  While it appears to show a lot of exterior rust, it is more of a patina surface.  The car rolls freely and suspension and steering turn fine.  I'm not too sure what I'm looking at underneath the vehicle but I really don't see much rust and what I do see appears to be on the surface.  It looks as if they could have run into a high curb stop on the front driver side under the bumper where it is dented in.  I didn't even see it till I removed the bumper however it seems pretty minor in my opinion and there aren't any creases in the metal.  The headlights are in a separate box and from what I can tell, the key, hood handle and side mirrors are the only thing missing.First and foremost,  I am not a mechanic or restoration expert in any way.  I am an engineer and if I keep it for restoration, would feel very confident that I have an excellent candidate for a resto' project. I can only assume it is a 356B but I know nothing more and you'd probably need to do a Porsche research request to get the specifics.  I don't even know what size the engine is and the title lists it as nothing more than a 960 Porsche.  Please be sure to do due diligence in your own understanding of what the vehicle is as my knowledge of it is very lacking. I will also be listing it throughout various vehicle sites and through the PCA channels so if you are interested, act quickly.  If this doesn't sell, it will not be relisted on eBay because I have other channels and guaranteed interested parties already on-board.Again, if you have any questions or would like me to take specific pictures feel free to contact me. The car is located in Lubbock, TX.On Sep-16-18 at 03:43:21 PDT, seller added the following information:So I've been getting a lot of feedback and have been told by several people that the engine is actually a VW engine. On Sep-16-18 at 05:34:13 PDT, seller added the following information:I've been responding to a few emails regarding the underneath, under closer inspection the metal under the battery is rusted through.Hopefully this works but I've uploaded more pics to photobucket:http://s143.photobucket.com/user/trieder/library/On Sep-16-18 at 05:40:58 PDT, seller added the following information:From what I can see (I probably need to clean them) all the glass appears good and intact. On Sep-16-18 at 08:27:05 PDT, seller added the following information:Use this link instead, I'll be posting more photos as I answer more questions and requests.
http://s143.photobucket.com/user/trieder/library/1960%20Porsche%20356On Sep-16-18 at 10:48:08 PDT, seller added the following information:So needless to say I'm shocked over the interest this is garnering.  I've had about a dozen messages of people wanting to make offers or buy it now.  I'm very cautious about upsetting the eBay machine so I would not make a deal outside of eBay with connections from this listing.  At the same time I will end the auction should an 'offer I can't refuse' surface from my other resources.
So in regards to this listing, please be sure you ask any questions and view the photobucket gallery of pics that I've listed and that you know exactly what you are bidding on; I am finding out I know very little about vintage Porsche but I am willing to answer and provide any information I can to your satisfaction.  If you would like to shoot me your best offer I will take it into consideration and either decide by Wednesday to accept or or continue with the bidding process.  If I do accept an offer I will change the auction to a Buy it Now to complete the sale.
In regards to pick up, I am unavailable during the week Monday through Saturday, I work in the West Texas/New Mexico oil fields all week and have a very hectic schedule so Sunday and potentially Saturday are my only available times to meet.  If you need to send an inspector to view it I can arrange for my wife to make it available for viewing.  Hope this answers many of your questions.
If the pic gallery link isn't working please let me know:http://s143.photobucket.com/user/trieder/library/1960%20Porsche%20356On Nov-10-18 at 19:53:57 PST, seller added the following information:I listed this vehicle around 2 months ago but the guy I purchased it from thought he might have a lead on the original engine but that didn't pan out.  Additionally I was second guessing selling it but I just don't have the time to work on it.  I began putting a motor together for it, a 1600s engine.  I have several of the main components, the 2 engine case pieces have matching numbers and comes with pistons, cylinders, crankshaft, rocker assemblies and more. Everything I explained in my previous listing is still relevant.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
