Up for grabs is a 1970 Firebird Formula Clone. It started life as a red Esprit 350 as seen in one picture from the PO. He had it a few years and did some decent work to it before I got it a few months ago. Wife says I have too many toys so it has to go.
The PO put a sbc 400 in it, headers and full dual exhaust, edelbrock intake and carb, 3.55 rear end, subframe connectors and engine compartment supports, painted it flat white with a flat black aftermarket hood, 17 inch American Racing torque thrusts with 245's on the front and 285's on the rear, adjustable shocks, lowering springs, hotchkis sway bars and Equus aftermarket gauges. It had no carpet in it, only sound deadening material. I put in a new carpet kit, valve covers and gaskets, new starter, 2 new front seat belts, new MSD Street Fire wires, shorty plugs (1 was shorting on the headers), and a few various things I have documented. No AC, heater works, wipers, lights, brake lights, everything works except for the backup lights. For a 49 year old F-body, it takes the road very well. Sounds great, starts right up, goes strong and stays cool. Clean and clear title. There are many more pictures and a driving video here.
I have a new 1 piece oil pan gasket but haven't installed it yet. I plan to soon. It was much more leaky until I got the valve covers done. Still drips a little bit of oil. A very small leak the the transmission line at the transmission. It might be that it needs tightening the connection of the steel lines but it's tight up there with the headers in the way so I haven't got there yet. Body definitely has bondo in the rear quarters, admittedly by the PO who removed the original vinyl top. There is some light rust in the lower corners of the rear fenders and on the roof. There is a BS 80's era Ziebart sunroof (yuck) so I haven't put a headliner in it. Speedometer shows 84 miles at the moment. That's because it didn't work when I bought it and I just got the GM to Equus adaptor installed a few weeks ago. The speedo is way off because of the steeper rear end. Mileage is unknown, title says 15699. No radio - not really a knock, just saying. Header flanges are about 2.5 inches off the ground so don't straddle any carcasses or retreads.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I bought this car because I've always wanted a 70-73 Firebird and couldn't pass it up. I love driving it and it gets lots of looks, comments, and thumbs up. I you want a weekend warrior that will carve up the back roads and get lots of attention, this is your girl. It's not near perfect, has bondo, looks a little rough up close, and will probably bury you if you want a concours car in the end. I'm willing to drive it up to 100 miles to meet you if you want to drive it home - I'd be comfortable with driving it longer distances with no problems. It does need an oil change and I intend to get that done with the oil pan gasket but I can't guarantee it. Shipping is on you, local pickup preferred so you can drive and see what you are bidding on.
