1990 Mercedes 420 SEL
Big Beautiful Benz
I am selling my treasured 420 SEL. This is practically a two owner car
(technically a third person had it between myself and the original
owners). That photo of the odometer is
no lie this nearly 30 year old car only has 107,000 original miles but it gets
better. The engine had a head job (nearly
completely rebuilt except for the block) about a year ago after an unfortunate
timing chain problem. Also, the transmission
was rebuilt at roughly the same time and is now in excellent working order. So, the drive train only really has 5 thousand
miles on it. You will not find a finer
running Mercedes outside of a showroom.
This model has (I think) every available option including the extremely-rare-in-a-420
reclining rear seat!
Passenger side Front window will need a
regulator at some point. I’ve owned the
car for two years and it hasn’t gotten worse, the window functions, but at some
The powered headrests do not go up or down. You can tell the motor is trying but no
Unsure about the headlight wipers. Never needed them, never was in front of the
car at night in the rain….
Everything else on the car works exactly as it should. Cruise control, AC, sunroof, powered seats,
heated seats, antenna, powered reclining rear seat … all function.
All work was done by the best Mercedes mechanic in Greenville
at Star Auto, feel free to call and ask about Jamie’s Silver 420 and he’ll be
happy to tell you about the car. His
name is Alex. The transmission rebuild
was done by a South African gentleman here in town at a very reputable
transmission shop, this gentleman used to build the very same transmission
brand new for Mercedes when the cars were initially in production.
The exterior of the car is BEAUTIFUL and the wheels were
just redone to match the quality of the rest of the car. There are only two dents. One under the drivers-side headlight, the
other on the sunroof. Both are small and
really are never noticed.
This is not a showroom restored car. It is original, it is immaculate for it’s age
and you will not find a finer example of this famous car for anywhere near this
money. (The stains in the rear interior
are on the floormats only, I have no idea what they are from and they came with
the car, new mats and then you’re good).
This is a Southern Car, originally sold in Mathews NC, where
it lived it’s life, then sold to me in Greenville SC. I doubt its even seen more than a few days of
snow and certainly no salt.
