Texas revoked the title!
This is a sad story about a beautiful truck that we cannot
drive anymore.
Three years ago, we set out to purchase a truck for our son
when he was in high school.  We had a
friend who told us that his dad purchased this chevy from Texas as a salvage
title vehicle.  His dad took it to Oklahoma
and had it inspected, they found no issues with the truck and issued him an Oklahoma
title.  Within a few months after buying
the truck his dad had some severe health issues and need to sell the truck. We took
it to our mechanic in Texas for inspection because we knew it was a previous
flood vehicle.  The mechanic told us that
the truck had never had water inside the interior, but there was water in the
transmission and told us that we might need to replace the transmission if we
bought it.  We negotiated a good deal,
bought the truck, and ordered a transmission for it, because we knew it would
eventually need a new one.  We had the
transmission installed in April of 2018.  We also had an Icon lift kit professionally
installed and purchased Rock Star rims and oversized tires for the truck, that was over $5,000.  Its only lifted a couple inches in the back
and the front was lifted about 2 ????? to level the truck. It is not too high,
looks great.  We put thousands of dollars
into the lift and improved wheels.
 My son has driven the
truck through his senior year of high school and his first two years at A&M
with zero issues at all.    After registering the truck in Texas and giving
the Oklahoma title to the Texas DMV we received our license plates and
registration sticker in Feb of 2019.  We did
not realize that we never received our Texas title in the mail until a few
months ago when we attempted to re-new the registration and received a copy of
a letter that Texas said was sent to us earlier.  The letter said that the truck was listed as ???junk???,
not salvage, and it did not qualify to be rebuilt (even though the only repair
was a new transmission).  We spoke to the
DMV on the phone and they told us that there is nothing we can do; the truck
can never be registered in Texas.  They
sent us back the Oklahoma title with a red stamp on it that says "NONREPAIRABLE".
I have made numerous phone calls and discovered this is a
political issue that I cannot solve. The Texas automobile dealerships lobbied
the legislators to pass laws that limit the number of vehicles eligible for
rebuild in Texas every year. So when there is a flood, most of those vehicles
have to be destroyed, even if they can be easily repaired.  This keeps people buying new cars instead of purchasing
a rebuildable at a lower cost.
So, there is the long story to explain that this truck is
being sold with a Oklahoma Title that has a red stamp on it ("NONREPAIRABLE"). The State of Texas
will not let anyone ever register this truck in Texas and the letter says that
the VIN was entered into the national database (NMVTIS)
So, what is this trucks value?  I have no idea, that is why it is for sale on
eBay as a "no reserve".  It is a beautiful
truck with low miles.    I assume the buyer will register it in Mexico,
use it as a donor vehicle to rebuild another Colorado, use it on a private property only (make a great security vehicle), make it into a ranch truck or scrap it for
parts.  Either way, I can??t do anything
with it.  If you can get a tag for it, you can fly into San Antonio and drive it home, I'll pick you up at the airport.
I would be happy to answer questions.  You are welcome to come inspect it in person.
I can send more pictures or video??s if you need them.
