Description
FOR AUCTION: 1988 Series II Holden VL Commodore Executive
The last of the VL's.
September 1988 build, auto, air con, power steering (no air con gas)
Very tidy car, the only change to original are the wheels and the Berlina tail lights and garnish I put on 15 years ago
I've done a fair bit of maintenance work in the last few months, it runs and drives.
One of the boot rods is broken, so the boot doesn't stay open, I was going to install a gas strut instead, but haven't done that yet.
The paint is old, and again, if I were to keep it, it I would paint the car, it presents ok, but the paint is 32 years old, so don't expect it to be great.
The interior is in VERY good condition, there is a small hole (5 cent piece) on the drivers seat.
It still has the original numbers plates (although faded) original owners manual, original stereo instructions all in tact. Ran out of reg in Dec 2007, and hasn't been registered since.
Here's a list of things I have done in the past 6 months
Radiator necks re-soldered, pressure tested, cleaned. New radiator overflow hoseNew Radiators hosesNew Radiator capNew ThermostatNew coolantNew gaskets(intake, thermostat)New rocker cover hosesNew Crank Angle SensorNew injector seals, injectors cleaned. New spark plugsNew spark plug leadsNew air filterNew second hand fuel tank and sender/pump(cleaned, pressure tested)New fuel tank breather hosesNew fuel hoses from tank to pump. And joinerNew fuel filler tube to tank hoseNew boot seal New overflow and washer bottleNew fuel filterNew power steering fluidNew clampsNew taillight/stop/indicator bulbsNew slimline indicator bulb holdersNew Tail/stop bulb holdersNew Battery (nov 2020)Air inlet pipe (second hand)New rear wheel cylindersNew Aerial (not fitted yet)New front bumper centre New bumper reinforcementNew Boot Carpet Oil change and filter (22nd November 2020)
Yes there are some very small non structural rust spots, very superficial, typical of VL's, none around the rear screen, some small surface stuff around the front windscreen.
The boot channel was a bit patchy with rust I repaired it with some metal putty many years ago to stop water getting in the boot, there's also a small 10c piece size hole in the spare wheel well. The rust isn't a major concern.
I took it for a quick drive around the block and noticed a couple of things not working, that were, previously, the fuel gauge is a bit intermittent, the fan controls have stopped working as well. Could be fuses or relays, I haven't even checked.
I'm in no hurry to sell, if someone knows VL's they will appreciate that this is a great car to start with, and with a little more work, this is a good example of a VL that will only appreciate in value.
I'm selling it because I want to do other projects. I've owned it for 15 years, it's time for someone else to enjoy it.
