Description
This is a rare RHD 1934 Desoto airflow delivered to Buckle and Harden( Bill Buckle motors) Chrysler /Desoto dealers Sydney in 1934 , which is the most sort after model as it was the first year introduction which utilised the revolutionary airflow design from chrysler and had a number of first year production car features including:
1) First production car designed in a Wind Tunnel2) Full steel frame and body with the only wood used for floor boards in parts of the drivers/passengers floor.3) Sweeping design with Flat head 6 cyl engine4) This car has the optional 4 gear overdrive and free-wheeling selector.5) 4 wheel hydraulic brakes.
When introduced the airflow had mixed sales due to the boot being located behind the back seat( you lift up back section of seat to access boot) and spare wheel is mounted on the rear panel with cover panel.
This model did not sell well in the fist year due to production delays ,so this is the lowest production year and rarest year as in 1935 they changed the sweeping grille and added a rear opening boot section.
This car has been in dry storage for nearly 40 years and hence has only minor rust in the front bonnet area and few holes in the running boards. The car is complete and has good original seats with only a couple minor tears. The instrument panel and guages are in near new condition.Car has good radiator and electics.
We were in the process of starting the car again and it turns over well with good compression and electrics working from ignition key. at this stage we have not started the car recently as the points spring has failed so just awaiting new points and condessor to arrive before trying again to fire it up.
The bad parts on car. Will need new front window glass as cracked , also window frame that holds the window glass is rusted and needs replacement.A couple small rust holes in bottom section of bonnet where it closes.A couple round holes in running boards.one small rust hole in bottom of rear panel. Will need brakes overhauling , but car rolls and steers fine.Rubber Floor mats have gone hard and will need replacement.Rear roof lining material is partially damaged and also side section. Will need tyres. The good areas.Car is nearly complete and chassis is in very good conditionAs can be seen car has original paint and only minimal rust or damage for an 86 year old car.Car has suicide doors which all workCar has wind down windows which are workingDash is in very good condition as are seats.Powerful 6 cyl engine for the period Car has been optioned with the 4 speed overdrive unit which normally only came out on the bigger 8 cyl airflow models.Glass is all original .I have original hub caps and rare locking cap for spare wheel coverThe car would make a great survivor project or very cool ratrod.
As car is a factory RHD model this would be a rare one to get going or restore to original and 95% of the car is their and original.
