2008 VW Passat Diesel Estate - 2.0l Hi Line
We've had this car for a few years and it's been great. It's been a real workhorse for us, yet is always comfortable to drive and very roomy. It's a good starter, even in cold weather and the brakes on it are the best I've ever driven of any car!
The bodywork does have scratches/mottled patches and a bit of one of the door trims is coming away, so don't expect it to look pristine. On the inside you've got leather seats (the front ones are heated which is lovely when you're cold), but the carpet is a bit worn in places. The heater is also temperamental and sometimes doesn't give out a lot of heat.
Unfortunately it has just failed its MOT - it is taxed until 30th October 2020.
MOT major failure points: Temperamental passenger door which sometimes doesn't open, drive shaft joint constant velocity boot split (nearside front), anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover no longer working (nearside front and offside front)NB - The engine management light was also on, but we've now done a diagnostic test and turned this off
We had a word with the garage who MOT'd it and they estimated it would cost around ??400 to sort out these major defects - it could be less than this if the passenger door isn't too complicated to sort out.
The registration light was also not working, and there were advisories on tyre tread depth on 2 tyres and brake pads, and suspension arm pins/bush needing some attention
Hopefully this car can be back on the road again soon.....in spite of its issues it's been a good car and the engine is sound and I'm sure it has plenty of life in it still....
